A six-month lease — half a year, and the figure starts to come down
Six months is the term that buys a summer and the shoulder either side of it, or a winter and the spring that follows. It is also the point at which a prestige car stops being an event in the diary and becomes the car on the drive — long enough to stop thinking about it, short enough that you have not tied yourself to one model for years.

A six-month lease runs half a year: one month up front, then one a month, with 1,000 miles a month included as standard. It is the first step up from our three-month minimum, and the step where the monthly figure begins to come down, because the cost of holding the car is spread across twice as many months.

What does six months change about the figure?
The monthly cost of any lease is mostly the car’s fall in value, divided by the months you hold it. Doubling the term from three months to six does not halve the figure, because the steepest part of that curve is early — the saving is real, it is simply not proportional. How large it is depends on the car, the allowance and what the market is doing to that model, and it comes back with your quote rather than as a rule of thumb we have printed here.
Three months or six?
Take three if the car is for a specific stretch — a season, a project, a gap between cars — or if you want to find out whether you like living with it before committing further. Take six if you already know, because the monthly figure is lower and you will not be having the conversation again in twelve weeks. The deposit, the excess and the allowance are the same on both; only the term and the figure move.
What does six months commit me to?
One month up front, then one a month for the rest of the term, a thousand miles a month, and the car back in the condition it went out in allowing for fair wear. Ending early is possible and is priced case by case on the specific car, which is a conversation to have before you sign rather than after.
