An 18-month lease on a car worth keeping that long

Eighteen months is the term people arrive at by accident and then choose on purpose. Six months is gone before you have finished finding the roads; two years is a commitment you may not want to make to one specific model. A year and a half covers two summers, one winter and the whole of whatever you took the car for.

An 18-month lease runs a year and a half: one month up front, then one a month, with 1,000 miles a month included as standard. It is the term at which a prestige car stops being something you have taken for a while and starts being yours, and it is long enough that the monthly figure comes down against a three or six-month agreement.

Cars in our own fleet

We own these, insure them and deliver them. The figure on each card is that car's price on our 3-month minimum. A 18-month agreement is quoted separately, because the term changes it.

Images are representative studio renderings of the model, not photographs of the individual vehicle.

What does 18 months change about the figure?

The monthly cost of any lease is mostly the depreciation you are paying for, spread across the months you hold the car. A longer term spreads the steepest part of that curve further, which is why an 18-month figure is usually below the same car on three or six months. It is not a set discount and we do not publish one: it depends on the car, the mileage and what the market is doing to that model, and it comes back with your quote rather than as a rule of thumb.

Is 18 months a long time to hold a performance car?

Not for most of the catalogue. The cars here are built for distance as well as occasion, and a year and a half is roughly the point at which the novelty settles into use — you stop taking photographs of it and start taking it to work. If you want a car for one summer, a shorter term is the honest answer and we will say so.

What if I want to change car partway through?

Tell us at the enquiry stage rather than at month nine. An agreement can usually be restructured, but what it costs depends on where the car is in its own depreciation and what we can do with it next. It is a conversation to have before you sign, not a clause to discover afterwards.

Tell us the car and how long. We’ll confirm the figure.

The car you want, roughly how long, and the town you are in — that is all we need to start. Someone here comes back with the monthly figure and the whole cost, initial payment, deposit, excess and mileage included.
