What is the Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance like to drive?
Calm until you ask it for something, which is the R8’s particular trick. Left alone it drives like a well-sorted Audi: light steering, a compliant ride, a cabin you could sit in for four hours without complaint. Ask for the top of the rev range and the V10 changes character completely, and keeps going long after a turbocharged engine would have run out of interest. With the roof down you hear all of it unfiltered, and that is the whole reason to take the Spyder over the coupé.
Why does the R8 Spyder matter now?
Because it is finished. Audi built the last R8 in March 2024 and there is no successor with a naturally aspirated ten-cylinder engine behind the seats. Cars like this are not coming back, and for most people a hire is now the only way to drive one. That is part of why it sits in our own fleet rather than being arranged through a partner: it is not a car we would want to promise and then have to substitute.
