How it works

Send the dates. We do the rest.

Tell us when you want the car, how long you want it for — twelve months, two years, three — month or a longer lease — a delivery postcode, and either the exact car or the category you want. Someone here checks what is genuinely available and comes back to you the same working day with the car, the full cost — rate, delivery, deposit, excess and mileage — and a delivery window. Nothing is booked or charged online.

How it works

From your dates to your door.

  1. Tell us what and when

Send us the dates you need the car, a delivery postcode, and either the exact car, the category you are after, or simply what the day is for — we are happy to help you choose. It takes about a minute and commits you to nothing.

  2. We confirm the car, the price and the delivery slot

Someone here checks what is genuinely available and comes back to you — usually the same working day — with the car, the full cost including deposit, excess and mileage, and a delivery window. If it is a car we source, we confirm it with the supplying partner first.

  3. We deliver it to your door

Home, office or hotel, anywhere in mainland Britain. We hand the car over in person, walk you round it, and collect it from wherever suits you when the hire ends.

Step by step

What happens after I send an enquiry?

Six stages, in the order they actually happen. Some are ours to get on with; the others need a few things from you. Both halves are set out here, so none of it arrives as a surprise.

  1. Straight away

You get an acknowledgement with a copy of what you sent

You see the confirmation on screen, and an email follows with the dates, the car or category and the delivery postcode exactly as you gave them. If any of it is wrong, reply to that email and we will put it right before anyone starts work.

  2. The same working day

Someone here checks it and comes back to you

Not an automated quote. One of us checks your dates against the diary for that exact car, works out delivery and collection for your postcode, and replies with what we can genuinely confirm. If you send it overnight or at the weekend, you hear from us the next working morning.

  3. In that reply

The whole figure, in writing, before you commit

You get the rate for the period, delivery and collection, the refundable security deposit, the insurance excess, the mileage allowance and the per-mile rate beyond it. We add nothing later. And if the car is not free for your dates, we tell you and offer you what actually is.

  4. When you are happy

Driver checks, then the hire agreement

We check the named driver’s licence and identity against what the insurer requires for that vehicle, then send you the agreement. We arrange the security deposit with you at that point, against a card in the hirer’s own name — never through this website.

  5. On the day

    Delivery and handover

We deliver to the address you gave us and hand the car over in person. We walk round it with you, record its condition and the fuel or charge state, show you what you need to know about that particular car, and leave you a number that reaches a person for the whole hire.

  6. At the end

    Collection, then the deposit released

We collect from wherever suits you — it does not have to be where we delivered it — and check the car in. We release your deposit once the car is back and anything owed, such as miles over the allowance, is settled.

A car key being passed from one hand to another

The handover itself is the part people remember and the part that settles any later question about the condition of the car. What happens at handover goes through it minute by minute, including what to photograph yourself and what is worth asking before the driver leaves.

How quickly do you reply?

The same working day. If you send it overnight or over a weekend, you hear from us the next working morning, and every reply comes from a person who has actually checked your dates rather than from an automated quoting system.

There is a reason it is a person and not a button. What a car costs for three days depends on the exact dates, the delivery address, who is driving and what the insurer accepts for that vehicle. A booking engine either ignores all four and takes your money anyway, or asks fifteen questions before it will show you a price. We would rather ask four and answer properly.

One case is genuinely slower, and we would rather say so than surprise you with it. A car badged We can source has to be confirmed with the supplying partner before we can promise you anything, so it takes longer than one of ours. When you enquire about one we tell you when to expect the answer, and we never hold a date we do not have.

How does a car actually get confirmed?

It depends on whether the car is ours. Every vehicle on this site is badged In our fleet or We can source, and which badge it carries changes what we can promise you, and how fast.

How confirmation differs between vehicles in our own fleet and vehicles we source
Confirming a car In our fleet We can source
Who supplies the car Us. We own it, insure it, maintain it and deliver it. A vetted partner, with us arranging and handling the hire.
How availability is checked Against our own diary, for that exact vehicle. With the supplying partner, who has to confirm it first.
What the price shown is Our confirmed rate. A guide, until the partner confirms the figure.
How long confirmation takes Usually the same working day. Longer. We tell you when to expect an answer when you enquire.
What can be held for you Specific dates on that specific car. Nothing until it is confirmed — we never hold a date we do not have.

Everything we own is listed on our own fleet, and the badge appears on every card and every vehicle page across the full catalogue.

Before the car arrives

What do I need to have ready?

Six things, none of them unusual for self-drive hire. Having them to hand is the difference between a hire we can confirm the same day and one that drags on for three.

  1. The named driver, and only the named driver

Whoever drives has to be on the agreement. Age, years of full licence held and endorsement points are set per vehicle by the insurer — they are on each car’s page and on driver requirements.

  2. A full licence and a DVLA check code

A UK photocard licence, plus a licence check code from the DVLA’s “view or share your driving licence” service so the endorsements can be seen. A non-UK licence is usually workable — tell us at the enquiry stage rather than on the day.

  3. Photo ID and proof of address

A passport or the photocard, and something recent with your address on it. Standard self-drive hire practice, and it is what the insurer asks of us.

  4. A payment card in the hirer’s own name

The security deposit is held against a card belonging to the person on the agreement — not a third party’s. A company hire is invoiced to the business and the deposit still sits with the named hirer. See business hire.

  5. A delivery address, and honest detail about the access

Low cars, steep or gravelled driveways, height barriers and gated developments are all worth mentioning in advance. It is the difference between a handover and a wasted morning. See how delivery works.

  6. Somewhere sensible to keep it overnight

Secure and, where possible, off the street. We will ask, because the insurer asks us. See insurance and excess.

What does a hire cost, and when do I pay?

A hire has five parts: the rate for the period, delivery and collection, a refundable security deposit, the insurance excess you would be liable for on a claim, and mileage beyond the included allowance. All five are quoted in writing before you commit, and none of them is taken through this website.

The rate for the period
We quote one monthly figure, inclusive of VAT, on a twelve-month minimum term. Our own fleet starts at £2,500 a month, and every car’s own page shows you its figures.
Delivery and collection
We quote it with the rate, from your postcode and the distance. You see it before you agree to anything, and we never add it afterwards.
A refundable security deposit
We hold it against the car for the duration of the hire, separately from the rate, and release it after collection once anything owed is settled. The amount is set per vehicle, and you will find it on that car’s page.
The insurance excess
The most you would pay towards a claim. You should know that before you drive off rather than discover it afterwards, so we put it on every vehicle page.
Mileage past the included allowance
Each car includes a daily or monthly mileage allowance with a per-mile rate beyond it, and we publish both. If you already know the trip is bigger than the allowance, say so when you enquire and we will quote the extra miles in for you.

The per-vehicle figures live on each car’s own page. The rules behind them are on driver requirements and insurance and excess.

What don’t you do?

  • Instant online booking. Every hire is confirmed by a person. That is a few hours slower than pressing a button, and considerably more reliable than being sent a car that was never actually free.
  • Take card details on this website. No deposit, no payment, no stored card. The deposit is arranged directly with you once the hire is agreed.
  • Send you an “or similar”. You get the car you asked for. If we cannot supply it, you hear that before you plan around it — not on the morning of the hire.
  • Keep the deposit and the excess back until the end. Both are published on every vehicle page, before there is a form to fill in. Hidden cost is the fastest way to lose this kind of customer, and rightly so.

Hiring a car: common questions

How do I book a car with Performance & Prestige?

You send us the dates, a delivery postcode and either the exact car or the category you want, and a person confirms it with you. There is no instant online booking and no payment is taken through this website. We reply the same working day with what is genuinely available and what the whole hire costs.

How quickly will you reply?

The same working day. If you send it overnight or over a weekend, you hear from us the next working morning. If a car has to be confirmed with a supplying partner it takes longer than one of our own, and we will tell you when to expect the answer rather than leave you waiting.

Do I have to pay anything to enquire?

No. Enquiring is free, no card details are asked for on this website, and no deposit is taken online. Nothing is charged until a person has confirmed the vehicle, the dates and your driver details with you.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can for a specific car on a specific date, particularly a weekend or a wedding. Cars in our own fleet can often be arranged at short notice because we hold them ourselves. A sourced car takes longer, because a partner has to confirm it first.

What happens if the car I want is not available?

We tell you straight away and offer what genuinely is free for those dates. We do not hold a date we cannot supply, and we do not substitute a different car for an “or similar” on the morning of delivery.

Can I collect the car instead of having it delivered?

No. We have no depots or branches, so there is nowhere to collect from. Every hire is delivered to an address you choose and collected from an address you choose, anywhere in mainland Britain.

Who is allowed to drive the car?

Only a driver named on the hire agreement and accepted by the insurer for that vehicle. Age, licence years and endorsement points are set per car, and they are published on each vehicle page and on our driver requirements page. A second driver can be added on most cars if you ask before the hire starts.
