Can you lease a supercar in the UK?

Updated 7 min read Performance & Prestige

Yes. Supercars are leased in the UK on agreed terms in the same way as any other car, with three differences: the driver criteria are stricter, almost every car is sourced through a partner rather than held in stock, and the price is quoted against a specific vehicle rather than listed. Our minimum term is 3 months.

Can anyone lease a supercar, or is it a closed shop?

It is not a closed shop, but it is a filtered one, and the filter is the insurer rather than the seller. A supercar goes out on a policy, and the underwriter prices the combination of a very fast car and a specific driver. That is why the criteria tighten as the car gets quicker.

In practice the gate is age, licence history and endorsements rather than anything to do with status or occupation. Every supercar in the catalogue sets its minimum age at 28 or above, most ask for 30, and 1 of the cars ask for 32.

Nothing about that is a judgement on the driver. It is the same arithmetic every insurer in the country applies, arriving at a stricter answer because the car is faster.

Which supercars can you lease?

There are 10 in the catalogue, and they span most of what people mean by the word: the Ferrari 296 GTB, the Lamborghini Revuelto, the McLaren 750S, the Maserati MC20 and the Audi R8 V10 performance among them.

Every one of them is arranged through a vetted partner rather than held by us, so the figure comes back from the partner against your term and your dates. The wider catalogue runs to 116 cars, and the ones in our own fleet — which we buy, insure, prepare and deliver, and whose figure is therefore ours to confirm — are fast saloons, convertibles and performance SUVs rather than mid-engined cars.

The full catalogue is browsable by segment, and every car's page carries its own criteria, deposit, excess and mileage terms, all of them readable before you enquire.

How is a supercar sourced?

You tell us the car and the dates; we check it against what our partners genuinely have free, and come back with a written answer rather than an optimistic one.

Three things make that go well. Give a date rather than a season. Say how long you want the car for, because a short window and a long one are different questions to a partner. And say whether the specific model matters or whether the segment does, because "a V8 convertible in June" has far more answers than one car in one colour.

If the car you want is not free, we will say so and offer what is. That is a better outcome than a provisional yes that unravels a fortnight before you need it.

What do you pay, and when?

One month of the monthly figure at the start, then one a month for the rest of the term, with 1,000 miles a month included. Alongside that sits a refundable security deposit, held against a card in the hirer's own name.

Deposits and insurance excesses climb steeply in this segment, and they are the figures worth checking before the monthly one. Across the catalogue deposits run from £1,500 to £50,000 and excesses from £1,500 to £35,000; on our own fleet the excess range is £2,000 to £10,000. They are provisional pending final confirmation and each car's own figures are confirmed in writing before anything is agreed.

Nothing is taken through this website at any point. A person confirms every booking, and no payment is taken online.

What is the insurance position?

It is confirmed with you in writing before the agreement is signed, and it is deliberately not asserted on this site in either direction. On a partner-sourced car the arrangement is set by whoever holds the vehicle, so a blanket claim from us would be a claim about somebody else's policy.

What is true in every case is the mechanism. The excess is your maximum contribution to a repair on a claim the policy covers; it is separate money from the deposit; and an unnamed driver is not insured, which makes handing the keys to somebody who has not been checked a far more serious thing than a paperwork lapse.

Insurance and excess carries the current position, and supercar insurance explained covers how a claim actually runs.

What is a supercar like to live with for months?

Different from the afternoon that made you want one, and worth thinking about honestly before even a three-month commitment.

The practical frictions are ground clearance on ramps and speed humps, width in multi-storey bays and on lanes, luggage space that will not take a weekly shop, and a cabin that is loud on a long motorway run. Add the attention: it is constant, it is mostly good-natured, and after three months some people find it tiring.

Set against that, these cars are genuinely usable now in a way they were not fifteen years ago — nose lifts, civilised low-speed modes and real visibility aids are standard rather than exotic. Ask about the specific car's quirks at handover, because the person delivering it knows them.

Where can you have it delivered?

Anywhere in mainland Britain, to an address you choose, on the day the agreement starts. There is no depot to collect from and no branch to visit, which on a car this low is an advantage rather than a compromise.

What we do need is somewhere the transporter can legally stand for a few minutes and enough room to unload a wide, low car safely. A steep entrance, a low archway or a narrow terraced street is worth mentioning in advance; it usually means meeting a short distance away rather than a problem.

Northern Ireland and the islands are outside the area. Delivery and collection sets out the whole arrangement, and how delivery works without a depot explains why it is built this way.

What if the answer is no for now?

Then it is worth knowing which part said no, because two of the three are temporary. Age and licence history both change with time, and a car asking 30 is a car you qualify for in due course. Endorsements fall off in their own time too.

Availability is temporary in a different way: a car committed for your window may be free three months later, and a partner's fleet is not static.

The part that does not move is the criteria for a specific vehicle, and no deposit or additional payment changes it. What we can do in the meantime is point you at what you do qualify for — 44 of the catalogue is available at 25, and the list is longer than people expect.

Common questions

Do you need a special licence to drive a supercar?

No. A full UK driving licence covers any of these cars legally. What changes is what the insurer asks for on top: a minimum age, a minimum number of years held, and a limit on endorsements, all set per vehicle.

Can a company lease a supercar for a director?

Yes, and it is an ordinary arrangement. Say so at the enquiry stage so the agreement, the deposit and the named driver are set up correctly from the start. How it is treated in your accounts is a question for your accountant rather than for us.

Can somebody else drive the car?

Only if they are named in advance and checked in their own right against that vehicle’s age, licence and endorsement criteria. Nobody can be added at the roadside, because an unnamed driver is uninsured rather than merely unauthorised.

Can I lease a supercar with a foreign licence?

It is handled case by case rather than assumed either way, because it depends on the licence and on the policy covering that specific car. Tell us which country issued it when you enquire, and we will confirm the position in writing before you plan around it.
