How does the Autobiography differ from the SV?
The SV is the performance version, with a far more powerful engine and a chassis to match. The Autobiography is the luxury one: the same body, a much more relaxed powertrain and an interior specified for the people being driven rather than the person driving. If the job is arriving somewhere in comfort, this is the correct half of the range and it costs meaningfully less.
Why a diesel?
Because of what this car is for. The straight-six diesel gives a real touring range and the torque to move a car this size without ever raising its voice, which is what you want on a long motorway run or a wedding day with a schedule.
