It is a grand tourer first. The 5.0-litre V8 makes around 457bhp and pulls to a high limiter with a hard, clean sound no turbocharged rival matches, and 62mph takes 4.7 seconds. The ten-speed automatic shuffles quietly in normal driving and holds gears properly when asked. The chassis is set for long-distance composure rather than lap times, and it is better for it.
Why does it look like that?
Because Lexus built the concept. The LF-LC show car of 2012 reached production in 2017 with its proportions largely intact, which almost never happens. The result is a car that still stops people in a car park years later, with a cabin finished in Alcantara, pleated door trims and switchgear damped to a standard that shames the price.
