These figures are provisional
The deposit, the excess and the mileage terms for this car come from our catalogue data, and we are confirming that data with the insurer while the fleet is finalised. Read them as the shape of the terms rather than as a quotation. What binds is your written quote and your hire agreement, and we check the specific car against the specific driver before you plan around it.
The deposit is refundable and held against a card in the hirer's own name at handover — it is not taken online and it is not part of the rate. Deposits, excess and driver criteria
About the Land Rover Defender OCTA
It is the fastest Defender built: a 626bhp twin-turbo V8 with hydraulically interlinked 6D Dynamics suspension, 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds and the ability to hold speed over ground that would stop a normal SUV.
The OCTA is the Defender rebuilt around a V8 and a rally-derived suspension system, and it is the most capable version Land Rover has made.
At a glance
- 626bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 mild hybrid
- 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds, limited to 155mph
- 6D Dynamics hydraulically interlinked suspension
- Wider tracks, raised ride height and all-terrain tyres
- Five seats and the standard Defender load space
What makes the OCTA different from a standard Defender?
Three things. A 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 of 626bhp in place of the six-cylinder engines, which cuts the 0-62mph time to 4.0 seconds. Wider tracks and a raised ride height. And 6D Dynamics, a hydraulically interlinked suspension system that resists pitch and roll without conventional anti-roll bars, so the body stays level while the wheels deal with broken ground underneath.
What can it actually do off-road?
It is built to travel quickly over rough terrain rather than only to crawl over it. The OCTA driving mode loosens the traction control, stiffens the damping and sharpens the throttle for higher-speed work on gravel and sand, and the hydraulic suspension absorbs impacts that would normally force you to slow down. On an estate track it is comfortably beyond what a road tyre will support.
What does it cost to hire a Defender OCTA?
Expect a refundable deposit of about £5,000 and a matching insurance excess, with 12,000 miles a year included and £2.50 a mile after that. Off-road use is not covered by a standard self-drive hire agreement and has to be agreed in advance.
Can you use one every day?
Yes, with two caveats. It keeps the Defender shape, the upright visibility and the hard-wearing cabin, and it tows and carries as well as any other Defender. But the all-terrain tyres are noticeably louder on a motorway than road rubber, and a 4.4-litre V8 in a car this heavy is thirsty. Neither is a surprise; both are worth knowing before you book a week.

Provisional. The age, licence period, points tolerance, deposit and excess above are being confirmed with the insurer while the fleet is finalised — read them as the shape of the criteria, not as a decision on your hire.
If you are under the minimum age for this car, or short on licence years, say so when you enquire. We will point you at something you can hire rather than let you find out on the day.

Questions about hiring the Land Rover Defender OCTA
Can you source a Defender OCTA at short notice?
Sometimes, but it is a low-volume model and stock is thin, so a few weeks of notice makes a real difference. We confirm a specific car with a partner before you commit rather than promising a model type.
How much power does the Defender OCTA have?
Around 626bhp from a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with mild-hybrid assistance, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic. That gives 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds, with the top speed limited to 155mph.
Is off-road driving allowed on the hire?
Not by default. Self-drive hire agreements are written for road use, so any off-road plan needs to be raised at the enquiry stage and agreed with the supplying partner in writing. We will tell you plainly if the answer is no.
