# A 24-month lease — two years, one monthly figure

Two years is the default for a reason. It is long enough that the monthly figure settles into something sensible, short enough that you are giving the car back while it is still current, and it lines up with how most people actually use a car of this kind — a couple of proper summers, a full service interval, and out before the model is replaced.

A 24-month lease is a two-year agreement: one month up front, then one a month, with 1,000 miles a month included. Two years is the most common term in prestige leasing because it holds the car through the part of its life that costs least to run and hands it back before the parts that do not.

## Why is two years the usual term?

Because it sits in the flattest part of the depreciation curve. The steepest drop on a prestige car is early and the expensive maintenance is late; a two-year agreement holds the car between the two. That is what makes the monthly figure on 24 months noticeably better than on a three or six-month term, and why most quotes you will see elsewhere are built around it.

## Two years or three?

Take two if you want to be driving something current, if the model is due a facelift, or if you would rather keep the option to change. Take three if the monthly figure matters more than novelty and you know you like the car. The difference per month between them is real but smaller than the difference between a three-month agreement and two years — most of the saving has already happened by 24 months.

## What does a two-year agreement commit me to?

One month up front, then one a month for the rest of the term, a thousand miles a month, and the car back in the condition it went out in allowing for fair wear. Ending early is possible and is priced case by case, which is a conversation to have before you sign rather than after.
